Hollywood-Inspired Holiday Styled Wedding Shoot

I love this time of year.  The lights, the trees, the food - there's something really comforting in the little bit of magic these simple things bring to this dark season.

The inspiration for this shoot came from the colours associated with the winter holidays, especially red, gold and green, which evoke memories of wrapping paper and bows, festive poinsettias and warm drinks, dark wood and cozy fireplaces.

The models both have this old-school Hollywood glamour about them which was complimented by the attire and accessories they wore, which further informed the shoot.

The elegant invitations from Tuktu Paper Co., the exquisitely dapper groom's attire from Outlooks for Men, and the stunning beaded mermaid-style gown & faux fur stole from Tres Chic Bridal Boutique all harken back to a more glamorous time depicted in classic black and white cinema.  The rose-filled bouquet from A Sea of Bloom Florist and fabulous jewels from Emma Glover Designs added the colour and style to compliment the look and feel of the shoot. Delectable treats from Ooh La La Cupcakes injected a dash of holiday spirit.

A visit to Helmcken House at the Royal BC Museum provided the striking backdrop of red brick and golden leaves.  A horse and carriage ride with Tally Ho Carriage Tours as night was falling was a romantic way to bid farewell to the day and welcome the night.  From there, we made our way to the Parliament Buildings to take in their seasonal light display, to the Bengal Lounge in the Fairmont Empress Hotel for a quick drink and to warm up by the fire, and then to Centennial Square for some night photography at the fountain and ferris wheel.  We even managed to conjure up a little snow - a rare feat in our usually-temperate Pacific Northwest coastal climate - in an homage to Hollywood special effects.
