This is a photo of my parents on their wedding day. Technically I'm there too. My mom was pregnant when they got married. I lost them as a teenager, and had to totally redefine my sense of family. I still miss them and think about them every day. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else". That has certainly proven true for me. What I missed in losing my parents I gained in the incredible love and support of my extended family and the amazing group of friends I like to call my "soul family". These are the people who let me be me and encourage me to follow my dreams. I feel so lucky to have them and I honestly don't know what I'd do without them.
I found this great website tonight that is full of Ralph Waldo Emerson quotes (which is where I found the quote above). Check it out if you need a pick-me-up. There are some real gems on there. Here's another one of his quotes I like: "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment". I hope you are lucky enough to have good people in your life who love you the way you are!
