Vintage Elegance PEI Styled Wedding Shoot | Canadian destination wedding photographer

I was lucky enough recently to travel to Prince Edward Island, a place that I love that is incredibly special to me.  While I was there, I had the distinct pleasure to participate in a wonderful styled shoot with some fabulous wedding vendors.  I hope you enjoy what we all made together!

In the height of summer in Prince Edward Island, Islanders and visitors alike flock to the historic fishing village of Victoria-by-the-Sea for the stunning vistas, charming shops, and rolling hills in vibrant green. Built in 1877, The Grand Victorian, a beautifully restored Gothic Revival masterpiece, provides the vintage elegance inspiration for this styled shoot. For a wedding befitting a Victorian-era heroine, the grandeur of the venue finds its match in the simplicity of natural elements and heirloom pieces.

The brides look stunning in vintage dresses hand-selected by Katharine MacDonald of Of The Island.  Kristina Fisher of KLF Weddings dressed the beautiful harvest table with vintage milk glass vases and medicine bottles styled with local wildflowers from Isobel’s Flower Farm. The understated bouquets suggest an evening stroll through fields in late summer. In the words of beloved author L.M. Montgomery, "There is so much in the world for us all if we only have the eyes to see it, and the heart to love it".

J + T Sunset Engagement Session | Victoria BC Wedding Photographer

Jessica and I are former co-workers, so I was absolutely delighted when she asked me to photograph her wedding this spring.  We did an engagement session at sunset a few weeks before her and Thomas tied the knot, and I'm so happy with the images.  We had a great time together during our session.

I love the light just before sunset and immediately after.  It's so incredible and flattering.  It's such a special time of day, especially by the water.  I feel like I don't get outside enough at that time of day, and I've really been making an effort to do so lately.

I just delivered their wedding images, and can't wait to share them once they've had a chance to see them.

I'd love to chat with you about photographing a special, or even an ordinary, day in your life.

Thanks for visiting!

J + M Engagement Session at Thetis Lake | Victoria BC Wedding Photographer

J + M are getting hitched this August at beautiful Lake Cowichan and I absolutely cannot WAIT to be there to document their day.

They have 3 sweet dogs, two of whom hung out with us for most of the session, and one who was a bit too worked up because it was a DOG PARTY at Thetis Lake the night we were there.

They also had a BIG announcement they wanted to make and brought a special sign for the occasion.

I just love love.

I know it feels weird to be photographed, but I truly believe it's so worth it.

Feeling so honoured for the opportunity to do what I do lately.

June Women of Weddings Event at the Gardens at HCP | Victoria BC Wedding Photographer

This is my third year as a member of Victoria Women of Weddings, and I absolutely love attending the monthly events, and a few times a year sponsoring them.  It's such a treat to work with such fantastic local wedding professionals who take such pride in what they do.

This month's event focused on 2017 wedding trends (apparently the 80's are back, people!), and Anne from Party Mood, in conjunction with Brown's the Florist, really nailed the tropical decor theme of the event.  Anne did a fun, informative presentation that got me SO INSPIRED for wedding season!  And the custom tropical step-and-repeat style backdrop she created was AMAZING!!!

Megan from The Gardens at HCP organized a fun scavenger hunt for our group that everyone enjoyed, and Truffles Catering kept us well fed during the event.  Milestones and Memories Apparel sent us all home with some AWESOME swag with her custom made "Girl Boss" mugs that I enjoyed my coffee out of today :)

I would highly recommend all of these amazing vendors to help bring the wedding of your dreams to life!

Would you do a tropical or 80's theme for your wedding?  Let me know!  Visit me on Facebook and leave a comment or some pictures of your dream wedding there!

Field and Ocean Sunset Maternity Session | Victoria BC Photographer

This light!  This sweet mama and her cute bump!

There's nothing quite like a sunset session.  I don't get to do them often with my family clients, but I've been loving doing them with my maternity and wedding clients.  This one was no exception!

Lindsay and I met at Beacon Hill Park at the tail end of camas season.  We got a few shots in the last few camas flowers, then headed into a field near the petting zoo, and finally down to the ocean at Dallas Rd.  I got more than a few shots I absolutely love and I'm so pleased to share them with you here today!

This baby is actually due on my birthday!  I wish this family all the best in this new adventure.

Thanks for visiting!

Golden Hour Engagement Session with C & B | Victoria BC Wedding Photographer

I have the best clients.

I feel so lucky to do what I do, which is capturing the connection and relationship between people who love each other.

Engagement sessions are fun because they typically start out where everyone feels a little awkward and uncomfortable (including me!), but as the session progresses and we get to know each other a bit we start to have some really magical moments together, and a lot of laughs!

Because let's face it - being photographed by a stranger is a little bit weird, right?  It's not something most of us do on a regular basis.  But it is SO WORTH IT, especially with regards to wedding photography, to have an engagement session with the person who's photographing your wedding.

Do you want to feel weird on your wedding day???!  NOPE!  You want to feel confident that you'll look great and that your photographer will do a fabulous job.   So please, do me a favour and book that engagement session before your wedding - even though it feels a little strange I promise it'll be worth it in the end.

Often, the only professional photos we have of ourselves with our spouse are the photos from our wedding, so it's nice to have some where you're not wearing your wedding clothes!  Who doesn't want some nice photos of themselves with the person they love?  It's a win-win situation.

I'm really looking forward to this wedding in August.  I know it's going to be so beautiful and that we're going to have a lot of fun together.  These two are so sweet and in love.  Plus, they have a great sense of humour, so that's a bonus!

Did I mention I have the best clients?

And that I LOVE my job?!

Because I do.

Thanks for visiting.  Hope your day is going great.

Spring Model Session Video at Abkhazi Garden | Victoria BC Glamour Photographer

Hey friends!

I made a thing!

My first video EVER.

I've been wanting to experiment with video for a while and I finally made something.  You can see it below.

It's arty and sorta weird and I kinda like it!  It was fun and challenging.

I've been loving getting out of my comfort zone lately by using harsh and dappled light in this shoot and making this video.  #growth.

Thanks to the lovely Jasmine Hagen-Aror for playing along, and Melanie Baird Makeup Artis for the GORGEOUS hair and makeup.  Dress: Myrtle & Moss Props.  Location: Abkhazi Garden.

Thanks for visiting!

Beauty shoot with Jasmine | Victoria BC Beauty Photographer

Gosh I LOVE photographing women.  It really feeds my soul and sparks my creativity.

Jasmine contacted me recently to set up a photo shoot.  I've really been wanting to get out shooting more now that I'm feeling a bit more like myself since the birth of my second child in January, so it was a perfect opportunity to do something fun and creative.

I've also been wanting to veer out of my comfort zone and experiment with using some different techniques and lighting scenarios, including breaking some traditional portrait rules by using light and shadow to create dramatic effects.

This weekend provided the perfect opportunity to work with some beautiful strong light and shadows on a much-needed sunny day here in Victoria after an unusually cold winter and early spring.  We met at the beautiful Abkhazi Garden in Fairfield and I can safely say that we both really enjoyed being out in the sun and being WARM!

Jasmine arrived looking stunning with hair and makeup by the talented Melanie Baird Makeup Artist.  She wore a gorgeous red dress from Myrtle & Moss Props.

It's too hard to pick my favourites, but here are some early contenders.

C + A's Maternity Session | Victoria BC Maternity Photographer

C + A are welcoming their daughter into this world in February, and their maternity session was my last session of 2016, and the last one before my own baby is due to arrive any minute now.  It was also my last session sharing the Westshore studio space with the amazing women from Sharon Rai Hair and Makeup Artistry and Details Special Event Planning and Decor.  I loved that space, and working with those great ladies, but I'm looking forward to doing what I love a little closer to home ... which will be essential with 2 little ones!  More on that to come soon.  In the meantime, hope you enjoy these shots of C + A!

As always, thanks for visiting!

Best of 2016 | Victoria BC Professional Photographer

I don't know if it's the imminent arrival of my baby, or the fact that I made it through one of the most challenging years of my life (parenting a toddler full time, being pregnant, and the first year running my business full time without another full time or part time job... well, besides parenting that is ;), but I am feeling an incredible amount of gratitude right now - for my friends and family, who's support and encouragement I relied on and appreciated more than I can ever express;  for my clients, who trusted me to capture some really important moments in their lives;  for other professional photographers and wedding industry vendors, who willingly referred me, hired me, worked with me and collaborated with me to make beautiful images I am so, so proud of; the list goes on.  Suffice it to say, THANK YOU a million times for your love, support, encouragement, friendship, and trust.  I am so, so deeply grateful for you all.

Below are a few of my favourite images from 2016 that I have permission to share.  There are some other great shoots I'm so proud of that happened at the end of the year that I look forward to sharing with you very soon.

Wishing you all peace, joy, success, passion, light, love and laughter in 2017.  May this be our best year yet.

With deep gratitude,

Juliana xo
